What are some conditions you can treat with microneedling at Juicy Face Medical Esthetics?
Microneedling is a skin treatment that is minimally invasive and can help with concerns regarding fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars, also it can be used in the treatment of certain medical conditions or stretch marks. Not to be confused with microdermabrasion, microneedling utilizes small needles whereas microdermabrasion uses a sandpaper-like product to remove the outer layer of skin. Some conditions that can be treated with microneedling are alopecia areata (hair loss due to autoimmune diseases) and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Microneedling works by using very small (micro) needles to puncture the top layer of the skin, by doing this the regeneration process happens more quickly and you begin to produce more elastin and collagen which improves the appearance of the skin. Since microneedling goes deeper into the skin than microdermabrasion, it is also very useful in treating acne scars, as it helps break up the scar tissues, and collagen and elastin produced by the skin will smooth and soften the area. The hand-held roller that houses the microneedles will be moved slowly across the skin, and you may feel some vibrations as the needles move up and down, however, the pain will be minimal as the area will be numbed using a topical anesthetic before the procedure begins. Those who have had tattoos before may also recognize the slight warming sensation created by the needles puncturing the skin, and those who haven’t had tattoos should not be concerned as this is normal, you may also experience minor discomfort if it is being done in a bony area of the body.
Since microneedling can be done on the legs, arms, back, and neck or other areas of concern where you have begun to show aging or have scarring, the procedure is most commonly done on the face, however. There are some situations where microneedling is recommended against, and some of these situations include you currently have acne or are using acne medication like accutane which slows the regeneration of new skin cells, you have a history of developing keloid scars which are hard and raised scar tissue, you are on anticoagulant medications or have a blood clot disorder, you have or have had cold sores, or you have eczema. It is important to go over and be honest about current and past skin conditions prior to receiving microneedling.
Microneedling can be great for many things aesthetically, it is also very helpful for those who have darker skin tones and worry about pigmentation lightening through laser skin treatments or have concerns regarding the cost of laser skin treatments. Benefits you will notice after undergoing microneedling include an overall improvement of the skin texture, improved elasticity, fewer fine lines, and wrinkles, fading of age or sun spots, improvement of scar appearance, reduced appearance of pores, and improvement and less hair loss due to alopecia. To make sure you get the best outcome from your treatment you should follow the instructions for care following your appointment, this means avoiding any anti-inflammatory medications in the week following the procedure, and avoiding using ice on the treated area as this can interfere with the inflammatory process involved in healing, and avoiding tanning or direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks after.
