PDO Thread Lift Specialist in Denver, CO
PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses polydioxanone (PDO) threads to lift and tighten sagging skin tissues. The threads, once inserted under the skin, stimulate collagen production, enhancing skin elasticity and smoothness. At Juicy Face Medical Esthetics, our board-certified Dr. Purnima Balla, MD offers a PDO thread lift for a rejuvenating effect, offering a less invasive alternative to surgical facelifts with minimal downtime. It is particularly effective for lifting the cheeks, jowls, and neck area. Results can be seen immediately, with improvements continuing as collagen synthesis progresses. PDO thread lift is a less invasive procedure that can give results similar to having a facelift done, the process involves the use of dissolving sutures, rather than a scalpel and is performed in a 45-55 minute appointment. PDO thread lifts involve the use of a specific suture, which has been used since the 1980s, to perform the procedure the name PDO comes from the type of suture which is the Polydioxanone (PDO) suture. There are other thread lifts available on the market, but PDO thread lifts have been proven to be the most effective and most commonly done thread lift since PDO sutures are biodegradable polyester sutures.
PDO thread lifts procedures start out by using an anesthetic to numb the face, and once this has been done and the anesthetic has begun to work, your surgeon will use a needle to puncture the skin to insert a cannula which is a small tube. The PDO thread will be placed and then anchored, followed by the removal of the cannula, and this process will be repeated a few times around the face to create the desired outcome. Normally two to three threads will be placed in the area being treated to create the best results for the patient. The presence of these sutures will cause the body to begin to break them down and repair the area, which introduces collagen through this process and gives the skin a more youthful appearance.
PDO thread lifts are most commonly used to treat areas of concern similar to face and neck lifts, with PDO thread being used on the cheeks, jawline, neck, and eyes. During your consultation, you will go over what you are expecting from your PDO thread lift, and the surgeon will recommend the best placement areas for the outcome you desire. It is important to go into this appointment with realistic expectations, though PDO thread lifts are used to create similar results to face lifts they are not going to be as dramatic as the latter, which is what some patients may be looking for in their treatment with some patients using PDO thread lifts along with other anti-aging procedures like dermal filler or botox.
There are different types of PDO threads, which is important to discuss with your surgeon prior to the procedure as well, since the different PDO threads can produce different results. There are floating non-bard threads and floating barbed threads, with the non-barb threads creating a more natural affect and the barb threads being able to create a more dramatic result.
PDO threads can be done at any point that you have become concerned with signs of aging, however, most commonly it is recommended for those who are in their mid to later 30’s to 55 years old as they will see the best results from the procedure. You can still have the procedure done if you are older than this, but you may not have as dramatic of a result as you hope for, as getting to procedure done sooner can improve the aging process. PDO thread lifts are also a great option for those who are unable to have facelifts done due to medical conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, as it is not an invasive surgery and does not carry the same risks.
Like facelifts, PDO thread lifts are not permanent but do produce long-term results in patients. The length that your PDO thread list lasts is also determined by a few factors such as your age, with the average amount of time being one to three years. Some patients who have PDO thread lifts done when they are younger can actually continue to see benefits exceeding 4 years if they continue to take good care of their skin.
To get the best and longest term benefits from your PDO thread lift it is important to follow your aftercare instructions as perfectly as you can, and importantly you should avoid lying down on your back or side for a minimum of four hours following the procedure to not risk movements of the threads. Avoid doing things that will slow down the healing process like smoking and drinking in the weeks following, avoid any exercise except walking as the movements can cause the threads to move, do not stretch the area (such as opening the mouth wide) as this can also cause the threads to move or stretch the threads out of place, and make sure to not have any other cosmetic treatments done to the area for a minimum of 10 weeks with the only exceptions being botox or filler which can be done 7 days post-treatment.
